about

What was said:

No Depression:
“Calling Everyone” is reminiscent of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes whipping up the crowd at the Stone Pony into a sweaty frenzy.

Music New Nashville:
The opener, “Calling Everyone,” has a very cool 60s musical vibe, and Brooks knocks it out of the ballpark. The guitar work on this sounds like something straight out of 1960s Detroit, and it’s a treat from start to finish.

Musoscribe:
“Calling Everyone” deserves hit status, and the other ten expertly-played and -arranged tracks are pretty swell, too.

Pop Culture Classics:
He opens with the soulfully celebratory “Calling Everyone,” merging the energies of Big Star and Van Morrison.

Leicester Bangs UK:
“Calling Everyone” combines Chilton-esque country-soul, urban sass, the sort of hooks that McCartney probably owns the rights to, and a walking melody that only extensive psycho-therapy will ever remove from the subconscious. It’s reason enough, all on its own, to warrant further investigation, but it’s just one of the many delights “Harmony Of Passing Light” has to offer.

Powerpopaholic:
Starting out with “Calling Everyone,” Brad evokes the spirit and soul of Daryl Hall and his vocal never sounded better.

Power Of Pop:
My personal favorites (and believe me, I am digging every single track) would include the opening authentic R&B-inflected “Calling Everyone”. The sitar embellishment keeps the pop footing steady as Brook’s blue-eyed soul evocation of the likes of Todd Rundgren and Daryl Hall is a distinctive joy to behold.

lyrics

Calling Everyone (3:58)

Well I’ve been twisted misplayed, pissed and dismayed
Ain’t got no white teeth, but bound by a fate
Is it slippin away? At the crux of my fear
Or will it leave a mark?
Or will it cut, it cut, cut me right here
Ain’t got a job, the job ain’t got me
Got no measured response, i guess i must be free
We’re calling everyone, calling everyone
Telling everyone, calling everyone,

Got me all in a bind, no feel for any kind of place
Staking all that I found,
But did I find, I find, find it to late
Driving in my dreams, grinding off the bits.
Famous or in flames, I don’t give a shit
We’re calling everyone, calling everyone
We’re telling everyone, we’re calling everyone

Ain’t got much time put my love to your lips
Shake it like a crime I get it hard as I can get
Someone gotta finally believe that it don’t matter
Who ya love and that ya take your stand
You take it like it’s always been free but now my love
I’m gonna show how to give it away
Everyone, calling everyone
Telling everyone, we’re calling everyone

Calling everyone yeah yeah yeah
Were calling everyone, we’re calling everyone
Telling everyone, we’re calling everyone
Were calling everyone, calling everyone
Were calling everyone, were calling everyone

about

Brad Brooks Oakland, California

Brad Brooks is that rare quadruple threat of writer, player, singer, and performer.
His songs combine the melodic sensibility of Elvis Costello, the best instincts of Wilco and Brian Wilson, the orchestral sophistication of Queen, along w/the Stonesy/Bowie gritty edges of rock/soul.
"If you're anything like me, you need some good news. Brad Brooks' music is that good news”……….Wayne Kramer
