Don't Snatch The Mail (Single)

by Brad Brooks

/

about

This is a new song about obsession, compulsion, kleptomania, kleptophobia (who knew that was a thing) loosely based on Roky Erickson from the 13th Floor Elevators (with love & respect) about his bout with schizophrenia and subsequent charges of mail theft in the late 80’s
Jesus with the Devils tail!

“He also became obsessed with the mail, writing letters to solicitors and taping his neighbors’ letters to his walls, a hobby that came to an end in 1989 when he was arrested for mail theft. The charges were dropped”

lyrics

Don’t Snatch The Mail

Here it comes I can feel it on the way
Got it coming everyday bringing me something I can’t fix
Not a thief nothing taken
Felt it necessary 3rd eye mistaken
A misunderstanding from a rose to a veil.
Don’t snatch the mail

A tenement open box that called my name
Hands caught in the drain
Sent me back to mother with a price to pay
Saw lightening in a prayer that wouldn’t go away
Forgot what it meant disguised in Braille till I licked the stamp

Don’t snatch the mail
Don’t snatch the mail
Demonic grail
Jesus with the devils tail
Don’t snatch the mail

From the eye of a pyramid
I feel the neighbors twitch
I can hear those footsteps coming
I can see another red light trail
This elevator goes from the top to the bottom
Fix those teeth but not forgotten
Spoke to me daily in a voice that could wail

Don’t snatch the mail
Don’t snatch the mail
All heil
Jesus with the devils tail

Don’t snatch the
Nicotine stained obsessions
Creased forehead reverberations
Mother may I?
Brother should I?
Everyone and I
Don’t snatch the mail
Here it comes I can feel it on the way
Here it comes I can feel it on the way

about

Brad Brooks Oakland, California

Brad Brooks is that rare quadruple threat of writer, player, singer, and performer.
His songs combine the melodic sensibility of Elvis Costello, the best instincts of Wilco and Brian Wilson, the orchestral sophistication of Queen, along w/the Stonesy/Bowie gritty edges of rock/soul.
"If you're anything like me, you need some good news. Brad Brooks' music is that good news”……….Wayne Kramer
